LINCOLN, Neb. (April 29, 2025) —The 2025 Nebraska Showdown, co-hosted by the Nebraska Sports Council, Volleyball Club Nebraska (VCN) and Nebraska Juniors Volleyball, wrapped up Sunday with eight champions crowned. This year’s field featured 112 teams from six states.

VCN, based in Lincoln, and Avera Sports Kairos Volleyball (Kairos) of Sioux Falls, S.D., led the way with three championships each. Nebraska Elite Volleyball and Nebraska One Volleyball each claimed one title.

VCN captured its first championship of the day in the 17/18 Club division, as VCN 16 Black swept Nebraska Juniors 17 Red, 25-22, 26-24.

The Lincoln club added titles in the 16 Club and 16/17/18 Open divisions. VCN 15 Black capped an undefeated weekend with a sweep of Kearney Elite 16-1 in the 16 Club championship.

VCN 17 Black claimed the 16/17/18 Open title with a three-set win over Nebraska Juniors 18 Black. After dropping the second set, VCN responded with a dominant 15-7 win in the third.

In the 13 Club final, Kairos 13 Beta edged Kairos 13 Gamma in a tight three-set match, completing a perfect 6-0 weekend.

Kairos 14 Beta and 15 Beta added to the hardware for the Sioux Falls club, winning the 14 Club and 14 Open/15 Club divisions, respectively.

Nebraska Elite 12 Vici, of Elkhorn, Neb., outlasted Kairos 12 Alpha in a three-set thriller to claim the 12 Club title. After fighting off multiple match points, Elite clinched the final set, 18-16, and the match 25-15, 23-25, 18-16.

Nebraska One 11 Ocean swept Nebraska One 10 Chaos for the 11 Club title and finished the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record.

The Nebraska Showdown is set to return for the 2026 season, with dates to be announced.

Next up for the Nebraska Sports Council is Nebraska DiamondFest. The two-day junior softball tournament will take place May 10-11 in Kearney, Neb. The last day to register for the event is Wednesday, April 30, at 11:59 p.m.
