State Games Early Events Begin Today
Eight Sports Slated for July 9-11
LINCOLN, Neb. (July 9, 2021) — Bass fishing at Lake Wanahoo began bright and early today with a 6 a.m. launch for two-person teams in 38 boats pursuing cash prizes and Cornhusker State Games (CSG) medals awarded for the largest five-fish limits. The bass tournament is one of eight sports slated for the Games’ preliminary weekend July 9-11.
Later today, 33 competitors will take on the Ninja Challenge beginning at 4 p.m. at the Nebraska Ninja Gym at 8335 Cody Dr. in Lincoln. Electronic Darts also begin Friday at 7:30 p.m. with competition in adult singles at the Wave in Waverly. Darts competition runs through Sunday, July 11th for the 72 registered dart throwers.
Saturday events include Adventure Race at Bowling Lake Park in Lincoln, Fencing HEMA events at Bellevue University, Slowpitch Softball at Fleming Fields, Plinking Pistol at the Nebraska Outdoor Education Center, and Youth Indoor Volleyball at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds in Kearney. Darts, Fencing, Softball and Volleyball continue through Sunday, July 11th.
BMX Racing, set for Tuesday, July 13th at Omaha BMX completes the lineup of pre-Opening Ceremonies events. The majority of 70 State Games sports begin after Opening Ceremonies Friday, July 16th at 8 p.m. at Seacrest Field in Lincoln. Registration continues in several sports, and organizers expect more than 10,000 total participants by the end of the Games on Sunday, July 25th.
The Opening Ceremonies, which is free to athletes and the general public, begins with a 6:15 p.m. meet-and-greet with Torchlighter Alex Gordon, college football hall-of-famers Eric Crouch and Chuck Long, and Gatorade National High School Softball Player of the Year Jordyn Bahl. The first 2,000 in attendance can enjoy a free Arby’s sandwich and ice cream from Hiland Dairy.

The Cornhusker State Games, conducted by the Nebraska Sports Council, is one of the largest multi-sport events in the nation. Platinum partners include Farmers Mutual of Nebraska, Pepsi-Cola of Lincoln and Nebraska Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine.
