The 18th annual Pumpkin Run is a 1-mile youth cross-country fun run, the largest run of its kind in the nation!



Session 1 – Small Schools/Non-LPS Schools: Heat 1 starts at 9:30 a.m.
Session 2 –  Large Schools: Heat 1 starts at 11:30 a.m.

Runner order will start with oldest grades proceeding down to the youngest grades.

Please plan to arrive shortly before your scheduled run time. You DO NOT have to arrive at the beginning of your session. Carpooling is HIGHLY recommended as parking congestion is likely with over 3,500 runners and families.  

NOTE:  The Pumpkin Run is a NO SMOKING event.  Please refrain from smoking or vaping on Speedway Sports Complex premises.  Also, for the safety of our runners and spectators, NO PETS, STROLLERS/JOGGERS or COSTUMES.

Runners registering through their school must have their completed entry form to their P.E. teacher by Friday, September 20. Registrations WILL NOT be accepted through the schools after September 20.

On-site entries WILL be accepted.

NOTE: Runners are encouraged to run without an adult/sibling.  However, an adult/sibling is allowed to run with their child free of charge. If the adult/sibling wants to receive a Pumpkin Run t-shirt with the run, they need to register online and pay the entry fee. PARENTS, GUARDIANS, TEACHERS AND/OR SIBLINGS OF REGISTERED RUNNERS MAY RUN AT THEIR OWN RISK OF LIABILITY.

SCHOOL BOXES: Most P.E. teachers will have participant packets (Pumpkin Run shirt and free 30 min of bowling at Sun Valley Lanes) available for the runners at their school sometime between October 1-3. Students typically will get their packet during their normal P.E. day. 

EARLY PACKET PICK-UP: Entries received via online registration after 5 p.m. on Monday, September 30 WILL NOT be available for pick up at the student’s school. Those late entry runners, along with the runners whose P.E. teachers don't provide packets at the school, can pick up their packets at the Nebraska Sports Council office (3260 Folkways Blvd., Lincoln – View map) on the following dates and times.

Tuesday, Oct 1 | 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct 2 | 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Thursday, Oct 3 | 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Runners who are unable to pick up their packets during the week may stop by the Packet Pick-up tent the morning of the run. Depending on the number of entries that come in between October 1-3, shirt sizes may be limited on-site.


Schools will be divided into a Large School Division (470 or more students) and a Small School Division (469 or less students). Award plaques will be given in the two divisions and award winners will be determined by the percentage of their student body enrolled in the race. The top three schools in each division will receive a plaque. Awards will be determined by entries received by Wednesday, October 2, and will be delivered to winning schools after the run. Schools with at least 10% of their student body registered will also receive a plaque.

RUNNER RECOVERY: The runner recovery area is for registered participants ONLY. Parents and siblings, to assure that supply does not run out before the final heats, please do not drink from the runner recovery station.

PARKING: More information will be posted closer to race day.

WEATHER: The Pumpkin Run will take place rain or shine. If there is lightning in the area, heats may be delayed.  Sorry, there are no refunds due to inclement weather.  If changes need to be made, announcements will be made on-site and may be posted here or on the Pumpkin Run Facebook page.
