Officials: CSG Entry Fees Increase March 28

LINCOLN, Neb. (March 19, 2019) – Nebraska Sports Council officials announced today that Norfolk native and U.S. Women’s Bobsled athlete Nicole Brungardt will lead the Oath of Athletes at the Cornhusker State Games (CSG) Opening Ceremonies on Friday, July 19 at Lincoln’s Seacrest Field.
Brungardt recently wrapped up her second season, which saw her rise to a top-10 position in the world with a 9th-place finish in the two-man women’s division at the World Bobsled Championships in Whistler, British Columbia.
Officials also issued a reminder to register for the 2019 Cornhusker State Games before March 28 to take advantage of the lowest possible entry fees. All registered participants receive a shirt and pass to the Opening Ceremonies and the pre-show SportFest meal with their paid entry fee.
The Cornhusker State Games offer competition in 70 sports for athletes of all ages and abilities. Most events take place July 19-28 at venues in Lincoln, Omaha and surrounding communities. Officials expect around 11,000 participants, and those interested can find information or register at
Brungardt was a standout athlete at Norfolk Catholic High School where she earned the Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star Female Athlete of the Year Award in 2008. She later starred in both volleyball and track at Wayne State College. Her full bio and video story are available at
Other Opening Ceremonies highlights include skydivers, fireworks, mascot madness, parade-of-athletes, a synchronized trampoline show by nationally renowned Flippenout and the climactic caldron-lighting by a mystery athlete--last year, NFL player Danny Woodhead did the honors.
The Cornhusker State Games is conducted by the Nebraska Sports Council, which also conducts the LiveWell Challenge, the Mud Run, the Pumpkin Run and the Nebraska Corporate Games.  Platinum partners include Farmers Mutual of Nebraska, Pepsi-Cola of Lincoln and Nebraska Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine.  Learn more at
